The paddle is made of soft cowhide on one side and heavy cowhide on the other. The unpadded side allows an accurate, hard stroke. The padded side is for softer strokes. The purpose of the two different sides is the power of the dominant part to strike hard or soft.
A metal core is incorporated into the handle, which keeps the paddle permanently straight and makes it less elastic and allows for strong strokes.
